The sinner in me.

Arsenal Fans say it with me now...
"Judas the II"

Some nations pay their ministers blockbuster amounts of money in fear of corruption or betrayal.
Some of these footballers earn even more.
Yet they sin.

Close Season.

Despite being an avid liverpool fan I wasn't alive to witness the legends that swept the 70s n 80s with their dazzling footwork, Im talking about the likes of Dalglish, Kennedy, Hansen and Thompson. I did manage to catch the fading years of then fat legends in the early 90s through Barnes, Molby and the already snailish Rush. But, I was fortunate enough to grow watching one legend in the making.

Robbie Fowler.

Dubbed as god by the Anfield faithful, I hated him as a kid cause he kept scoring and always piped stan collymore (who was my fav player despite his antics) to the top goalscorer award. He practically scored in every game and I really got bored of watching him score. He was considered the best finisher when placed along the then heros Ronaldo, Del Piero and Crespo.

A horrible groin and some wonderful heroics sent him packing for a couple of years or so. Unlike Owen, he left tearful, unable to say a proper fairwell and promised never to celebrate if he scored against the reds, a promise which he kept.

He returned frankly a wee bit too late, for despite still possessing that mercurial touch, age had caught up with him.

Thank you for all those goals.
A player I will always remember for that "blond head era" of his and smashing goals against united.

A tribute from me to you.

Players come and go in football and during fowler's absence the no 9 jersey was loaned to clowns such as cisse and diouf. I hope this time round it's gifted to someone who fits the jersey.

Thoughts.

And so my elder brother and I went to Ngee ann today to pick up my mom when my brother asked me if i could help him get the Japanese weird looking balls from Canteen 1. After some procrastination thanks to me being lazy as usual, I walked up those steps feeling the warm oily wind hit me again, reminding me of my duties at Canteen 1 when we had to screen CTV.

Speaking about CTV, the Tee vees which we fought for are yet to be changed and the heatwave studio looks the same too. It was nice walking through the canteen as an outsider reminding myself about the wonderful times, meals and people that I met there. The evening meals comprising of food from any stall but the staple was always the nuggets from the drink stall. Coke was always part of the diet. Haha.

I felt like sitting there for a while n just soaking up the atmosphere. I actually stood there for a moment and starred blankly at the pitch black tee vees as though hoping for something to be screened.

Feeling all emo, I got home n looked at some of the photos from our times at Zheng Hua, the students we dubbed as pizza huts potential workers. Here's one for the record.

Weekend.

I always took the weekend for granted till I entered NS and after a really long time, this week Im enjoying a complete weekend. Started my saturday morning by hitching a ride to Tanjong Pagar for a game of football in the blazing sun leaving EVEN me with tan lines of the singlet I was wearing. The game was pretty decent, yet was corrupt by the potential fist fights which were resultant from some rash challenges.

Went to Amara hotel and had my lunch at 5pm. Screw the lunch, what mattered was that I finally got a chance to sit down and chat with some good old lads about things we had missed out on.

Returned home and soon left for a planned night out with Naresh, Kumaran and Nivi. We headed to the Bikini Bar which was nothing short of the word awful. We ordered four glasses of Bombay Saffire with Tonic and each glass tasted completely different from the other, so much for consistency. The place was dead and we felt Del Mar was a strict no no alternative after all the horrible rumors we've heard about their service.

So we left Sentosa for Cheeky Monkeys and boy that place was no better. Yes it was an ultra sausage festival with weird music and loads of free space. We left at about three after finishing our bottle of chivas.

Woke up today at 9 and met Naresh to grab Nivi's and my bag which we had left accidentally in his boot yesterday. After that I returned to Amara hotel for a hair cut. The place is called Kojimaya or something like that, yes another one of those 10bucks outlets. But this place is cool, I love the feel of the place despite not having to watch a looped video on Japan on a plasma and not getting a free comb at the end of the session. The hair stylist was really professional and gave me some interesting advice. I was totally impressed. Id recommend it to all NSFs who just need somewhere decent for a proper haircut.

Went to Shop n Save to get some groceries and stuff. Was surprised by the cashier cause she was ultra friendly, asking me if I lived around the corner or if I was part of the working crowd, she actually spoke to me for about 5 minutes, even telling me how her shift worked like. That's what Id call customer service, talking to your customer naturally, not asking brainless questions which you were programmed to ask while on course.

Anyway now Im nursing cramps and sitting in my room knowing that the game of badminton I just had, marked the end of this wonderful weekend. Im just glad I spent it well, a decent reminder of the days of freedom I once lived.

Love.

A video I turn to every now n then, maybe its nothing special, but i enjoy the message, something almost impossible yet interesting. The lyrics n visuals are just exceptional, every detail or line meaning something beyond the surface.

Today from a year ago.

My last day as a civilian (atleast for now). I am finally beginning to swallow the fact that in a day's time i am going to be waking up in a bunk daily. The feeling sucks. On the other hand, I am wondering why must we all go through this?

I cant explain the weird feeling i am feeling now.
Its not anxiety.
Its not fear.
Its not happiness.
Its not frustration.
Its just a cocktail of it all.

Which you cannot taste till the night before your entry.
& sadly you cant explain it either.

Anyway hope everyone stays well and do good.
Take care and seize the moment.

Cheers!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Its been a year since Ive enlisted and Ive just another to go, I must say the morale is high around here and frankly Ive learnt alot about everything from basic survival skills to relationships. The people I trusted let me down and the people I never expected helped me along in the past year, not forgetting the wonderful support from my two besties n family.

Ive been to three camps as of now n have made several friends, some of whom ive forgotten n some of whom im waiting to meet. Things have changed, yes n I hope I too have for the better.

To all the guys in NS, hang in there! N to my wonderful bro funky, congrats for ORDing still fighting fit! Cheers.
